BECAUSE OF SECURITY BREACHES AND information leakages, an increasing number of regulations and security standards have been enacted. There are many domestic and international regulations and treaties, but in this chapter, we will simply provide an overview of some of the more sweeping ones. Many of the regulations overlap in some way, but in other cases—especially when crossing international borders—there are some that conflict with each other. We will defer detailed discussion of those and merely bring these issues to the reader’s attention for further investigation.
