Working on information systems projects will expose you to many forms of organization and to many project managers. This chapter reviews the primary types of organization used for information systems projects, and the reasons they are designed that way. The chapter also discusses features desirable in project managers, critical factors in project success.
The purpose of organization is to coordinate the efforts of many to accomplish goals. Organizational structure shows reporting relationships. Figure 3.1 shows a small subset of reporting relationships in a large organization.
