An integration project or a software development project typically goes through several phases. The first phase is usually a planning phase and consists of gathering users' needs and preferences. Often, a prototype phase follows. Next comes an initial development phase in which actual coding and software development occurs. This is followed by a testing and acceptance phase in which the user eventually signs off on the phase. Finally the project goes into a production mode in which maintenance and upgrades are the primary function of the integrator/developers.
