This chapter reviews the cardinal aspects of avionics development of recent decades, and considers the orientations that will play the greatest part in determining the degrees to which there will be change in the future. In considerations of cost, technical improvements affecting the overall capability, the influence of demand, and aspects affecting timing, this forward-looking chapter delimits what is still undefinable.
