Working with Lines, Polylines, and 3D Polylines
A standard line in AutoCAD is usually drawn in two dimensions and exists on the World Coordinate System or the current UCS. Each endpoint of this line is defined by a set of coordinates: X, Y, and Z. If you have spent most of your time drawing in 2D, then you have probably always left the Z value set to 0. By adjusting the Z value of either endpoint of the line, it becomes a line using all three dimensions.
The fact that the line is now in three dimensions, however, becomes apparent only by observing it from a different viewpoint. For example, a line may appear to be two-dimensional when viewed from the top, but appear three-dimensional when viewed from other angles (see Figure 28.1).
