Select the CEO
“If you pick the right CEO, serving on the board is actually pretty interesting and enjoyable. If you pick the wrong CEO, there are not enough board meetings and committee meetings to overcome that bad decision.”
—Charles Noski, vice chairman, Bank of America Corporation, former vice chairman, AT&T Corporation
As we have cited numerous times throughout this book, it is our firm belief that the most important decision any board of directors can make is the selection of the CEO. Getting this decision right will have a significant impact on the trajectory and sustained success of an organization, while getting it wrong can set in motion a ripple effect of adverse consequences that can detract from positive growth.
