Other QoS Features

There are many QoS features in IOS not covered in this chapter—an entire book can be written on just these features. Some of the other QoS features offered in IOS include the following:

  • Committed Access Rate (CAR)— A popular rate-limiting feature used for policing the traffic rate inbound or outbound on an interface. CAR often is thought of as a traffic-shaping feature, but it's not, because CAR doesn't shape traffic.

  • Generic Traffic Shaping (GTS)— A traffic-shaping feature used to smooth out traffic outbound on a interface.

  • Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP)— A QoS signaling mechanism used for resource reservation.
