Converting Non-Digital Images: Scanner Basics

Up until now we have been considering the transfer of images from digital cameras or pictures on a CD into the computer. The odds are, however, that you have many photos, slides, and negatives that you would like to convert to digital images. You can do that by scanning the images using a flatbed or film scanner. You then can work on the scanned images in Photoshop. The scanner is a marvelous tool that can turn almost any photograph, printed image, or even 3D object into a graphic image file that can be brought into Photoshop for enhancement, correction, or restoration. And, scanned image files are impervious to the wear and tear of time, unlike printed images or film negatives.
