Abstract
The development of remote sensing and remote measurement technology has received increasing attention owing to its wide area monitoring ability. Infrared detection technology can detect the heating defects of various items of equipment on transmission lines. Infrared detecting instruments, basic methods for infrared-thermal detection and diagnosis and the application of infrared detecting systems are introduced in this chapter. UV detecting is another noncontact detection technology for detecting the external insulation status of high voltage lines.
