43.9.1. Requirements for Reactor Control
In the design of many control systems the importance of reliability depends upon the consequences of a failure. The cost of a failure in the control circuits of a domestic appliance such as a washing machine is largely restricted to the cost of repair; this will fall on the manufacturer if it occurs within the guarantee period, after this on the owner. The manufacturer is interested in making a product with sufficient reliability to ensure a very low level of returns under guarantee and to keep up with the competition.
