Abstract

In this work, analysis of a wide-angle S-band metamaterial absorber is performed with equivalent circuit modeling. The proposed absorber unit cell consists of an annular patch engraved on grounded FR4 dielectric. The thickness of the absorber unit cell corresponding to the guided wavelength is less than λ0/84 and is arranged in a periodic manner to attain an absorption of 99.64% at the frequency of 2.12 GHz. The proposed absorber is polarization-insensitive with an absorbance of above 99% for all polarization angles and absorbs more than 93% of wide (up to 45°) oblique transverse electric waves, whereas it absorbs about 93% of oblique transverse magnetic wave (up to 60°). Resistive loads are installed on the ring to study the power absorption capability of the designed absorber. The basic design is fabricated by standard PCB technology which is practically validated using the waveguide measurement method. The measurement outcome is in agreement with the numerical result.
