6.1 Introduction
Two different technologies were introduced in the previous chapter, conceived and developed to meet widely differing needs, both of which turn out to be suitable for use in the implementation of the B-ISDN. Today, with hindsight, many would argue that one of them, SDH, although being very relevant to the solution of problems of transmission, is not part of the B-ISDN toolbox. Communications initiated by B-ISDN users may well be transported using SDH, but this is irrelevant to the development of the B-ISDN technology.
