This paper presents a concept to improve the management of developing complex products in a distributed engineering environment. It will show a product data driven engineering workflow that is able to manage engineering tasks across company boarders. This approach is based on parameters, presenting the smallest product model element, and a user category concept to address tasks to the right persons at the right time. In addition, a concept for an architecture of a web-based distributed workspace will be given.
