As a venture capitalist, I can play a meaningful part in driving responsible innovation and curtailing the unintended consequences of new technology. All VCs can do this. We can influence the way founders think about their mission and the kinds of companies that get funded. At General Catalyst, when we choose where to invest, we test for responsible innovation. Once we invest, we often get a seat on the board or have the CEO’s ear, so we can continue to press for responsible innovation as the company grows.
