Many horror movies begin with people trying to prove or disprove the presence of evil. In the Blair Witch Project Web site, the designers decided that their users were like detectives on the trail of some supernatural presence. The users were not just observers, because they were searching, not just observing.

If, on the other hand, you take the approach that your users actually are nothing more than observers and their role is to look at things, you have what I call The Observation Adventure. If the goal is to deliver brief, entertaining Internet bytes that users can observe passively, you will be going the route of the now defunct super site, “The Den.”
