Description and Purpose
Know-Wonder-Learned (K-W-L) involves creating a chart to help students think about out-of-class reading or other assignments prior to coming to a class. Before starting an assignment, students complete the Know portion of the chart, indicating what they already know about the topic. They also record what they still Wonder or want to know about the topic. After completing the reading, in the Learned portion of the chart, students indicate what they have just learned about the topic through the assignment, trying when possible to address the Wonder column; if they cannot ...
