Description and Purpose
At the beginning of a class session, students write a memo to a real or fictional student who missed the previous session. In one version of the memo, students explain how an idea from the prior session's lecture that either the teacher or they select is particularly central to understanding. In an alternate version, students write a summary of the entire prior lecture. Students in either version explain why the missed information was central to understanding the current day's session.
