Description and Purpose
In Coded Notes, students use a coding system to record their thoughts about the content of the notes they take during a lecture. When the instructor pauses, students use a set of symbols to mark in the margins their reactions to information they have recorded in their notes. The Coded Notes symbols encourage students to constantly make decisions about their agreement or disagreement with ideas and concepts and to identify questions they have. Coded Notes also encourage students to identify new and important information that they have gained during the lecture.
