Appendix A: Loading Geographic Polygon Data to CAS

Out of the box, SAS Visual Analytics can display geographic maps with colored regions for countries and their first-level subdivisions (like US states). If you want to display regions for other geographic levels (like counties, postal codes, school districts, or sales regions), you must define a custom polygon provider that contains information about the boundaries for these levels (polygon data). To define a custom polygon provider, do the following:

1. Obtain polygon data: This data can be stored in a SAS data set or an Esri shapefile. The Esri shapefiles (the .shp, .shx, .dbf, and .prj files) must be loaded to the server machine.
