5 The JavaTV Service Model
The concept of services, representing individual TV channels, is a central concept in a DTV system. This chapter discusses how the service model used in MHP and OCAP affects the life cycle of applications, as well as looking at how applications can change to a new service.
For any DTV receiver, the basic unit of content is the service. To most people, this most often means a TV channel or a digital radio channel. Conceptually, a DTV receiver decodes and displays services, rather than transport streams or particular events, just like a normal TV. It shows one TV channel at a time, and if you want to see something else you have to switch to a new channel.
