Kalman filtering is an important computer application and a specialist area. Connecting a PC to an external device is an effective means of acquiring a realistic understanding of this method of digital signal processing. The aim is to remove random fluctuations and to establish trends. In this sense, the Kalman filter is a digital estimator designed to remove noise, although this is not clear from the literature. Most books are written by specialists who seem to think Kalman filters exist for the purpose of manipulating mathematical equations. This makes getting started very difficult.
