NNTP Service

The Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP) service that is part of Internet Information Services is a fully functional service for providing users a forum for posting and reading information of interest. Newsgroups can be restricted to within your organization or can be publicly available on the Internet. The Microsoft NNTP format is compatible with other NNTP clients and servers, offering scalability and support for various content formats, including these:

  • Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME)

  • Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)

  • Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)

  • Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG)

Allowing all these different formats enables users to include pictures and Web links within articles that they post.
