Chapter 18. Interworking with PSTN/PLMN

In this chapter, we will tackle the integration of IP multimedia networks with the existing fixed (PSTN[1]) and mobile (PLMN[2]) circuit-switched networks in order to enable different types of communication scenarios. We begin the chapter by explaining what the motivation for the integration is. Then we present the high-level architecture that enables the identified scenarios. After that, we will look into specific aspects of the integration, such as addressing, protocol translation, and protocol encapsulation.
