8 Conflict in close relationships

Abstract: A mountain of research focuses on how conflict interaction behaviors connect to relationship and individual factors (e.g., depression, health outcomes). We focus on how conflict behaviors connect to relationship satisfaction and stability. This chapter briefly and selectively represents this research: First, we frame our discussion in light of how cognitive processes limit people’s ability to discern conflict communication accurately.
