Danger lurks everywhere. At least that's a common perception, according to a Wall Street Journal article that describes how a fixation on risk—fed by labs, law, and media—haunts the United States, a comparatively very safe society.¹ But it's impossible to read the newspaper or listen to a news broadcast without sensing danger.
