Introduction to Families
You have already encountered families such as walls, doors, and windows in the previous chapters. In fact, every element in Autodesk Revit Architecture can also be referred to as a family. The founders chose the word family to describe the elements you use in Revit because it aptly applies to the relationships that each has in a building project as well as to each other. For example, a cabinet manufacturer offers various kinds of cabinets, and each has a range of sizes. You just need to exchange “kind of cabinets” with “family of cabinets” to see how well it works.
