How cables work
Whether we are using cables to transfer power or to pass data, telephone or television signals, we are still transferring power from one place to another. As we send power it must spend much of its journey contained in the cable. This means that the characteristics of the cable must have some direct influence on the data and how well it is transferred so it may be worth our while to spend a few minutes looking at some characteristics of cables.
In Chapter 7 we will return to look at some specific cable designs.
