From its inception in the twentieth century, electronic communication has been a rapidly developing, expanding, and changing field. In the twenty-first century, changes occur faster, reach farther, and show few signs of a predictably clear and predetermined path. Despite the sometimes unsettling nature of the changes in electronic communication, there are some constant or persistent tendencies, such as economic and technological convergence, which continue to offer outstanding opportunities for students who plan to enter the media production job market now and in the near future.
