THE ROLE OF THE PRODUCER
Up to this point we have presented an overview of various venues and configurations where theatre may be produced. Why these locations and how theatre is made in them are different matters. In the course of theatrical history productions grew out of various purposes such as religious gatherings, rituals, instructive presentations, playwrights’ troupes, and court entertainment at the behest of royalty. Shakespeare and Molière spring to mind when we consider playwrights whose work was under the patronage of a king, a queen, or other wealthy patrons.
