Installing the Snort Server Components
This rather large section walks you through the steps in building the Snort Server from scratch. You should now have a lean, hardened Linux machine primed for action. If you have decided to use a distribution other than Red Hat, the following instructions may vary slightly. The locations of files, directories and other components may be different on other distributions.
It is important to follow the steps in this guide in consecutive order. Some of the packages must have another package installed for them to compile and install. It is important to have these dependencies satisfied; if not there is a good chance the installation will fail.
