In a post Macondo world, the oil industry will never be the same. The service companies and operators are in a new world order with, perhaps, a new playbook. What the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill illustrated was the complexity with which operators and service companies must work together. The traditional model has come under scrutiny and is open to a new business model with renewed focus on safety and planning for the unthinkable. Increased governmental regulation will necessitate a thorough review of existing operational and safety practices.
