In the United States, the state of California has the largest geothermal power capacity, with approximately 2,043 megawatts (MWe) of electricity. The largest geothermal field in the world is The Geysers Geothermal Field near Santa Rosa, in northern California. As such, the largest group of geothermal power plants is situated near The Geysers, approximately 70 miles north of San Francisco. The USGS confirms The Geysers produces enough electricity to meet the power demands for two cities the size of San Francisco.
