Creating and Installing Distribution Profiles

At this point, you’ve given the Provisioning Portal the information it needs to give you a distribution profile you can install in Xcode. Ad Hoc and App Store Distribution Profiles are created in a similar way. The only difference is that an Ad Hoc profile includes a list of devices, but an App Store Distribution Profile doesn’t need one.

Ad Hoc and App Store distribution profiles are officially both called “provisioning profiles.” Provisioning simply means the profile includes a key that enables one kind.

Creating a distribution profile

To create a profile, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the Provisioning Portal.

2. Select Provisioning from the list of items at the left.

3. Click the Distribution tab.

4. Click the New Profile button near the top right.

5. Select App Store or Ad Hoc distribution.

6. Type a Profile Name. (This is for display only. This name will appear as one of the profiles you can select in Xcode.)

7. Select an app ID.

8. For Ad Hoc profiles only, select one or more test devices from the list at the bottom of the page, as shown in Figure 13.10.

9. Click Submit at the lower right.

10. Reload the page to change the profile status from Pending and to show a download link.
