This last chapter addresses automation, which I consider a very interesting aspect of user experience design that has emerged over the past few years. The idea of automation is compelling because it actively tries to hide from the user critical details pertaining to the operation of an application. Extensive automation is starting to make its way into all different kinds of consumer applications, and it is an emerging technique that has a high degree of relevance for both the mobile and portable use-cases.
