PLACEMENT OF ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN THE PROTOCOL STACK

We have learned that route discovery can take place with layer 2 or layer 3 addresses. This section goes into more detail about the layered model and the placement of protocols in the protocol stack. Figure 1-6 shows the placement of route discovery protocols in the Internet layered architecture that pertain to layer 2 or layer 3 route discovery protocols.
