Choosing the Best iPad
When considering a new iPad, is it possible to choose the wrong one? Well, “wrong” is such a strong word. Maybe a better way to approach this question is: How do I choose the best iPad for me?
There are four major considerations to making a good selection:
- Size: iPad Mini (7.87 inches by 5.3 inches) versus a full-size iPad (9.5 inches by 7.31 inches).
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi only versus Wi-Fi + Cellular.
- Storage: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB.
- Price: $329 to $929.
Size Considerations
Let's start with the physical dimensions of your tablet. This is a tough one for me. I have both a Mini and a full-size iPad. I like them both, but I use them differently.
The iPad Mini is my go-to tablet for consuming content. I read newspaper articles, blog posts, and books on the smaller iPad. It's easier to hold with one hand and more comfortable to use when reclined on the couch or in bed. The Mini is perfect for watching TV shows and viewing pictures on Flickr and other photo sites. It fits practically everywhere and weighs next to nothing.
The Mini fits great in a small messenger bag with just a compact camera and a few accessories. It also fits in many of my assignment camera bags, meaning that it's convenient to pack for just about any situation.
