We tell stories. We’ve always told stories throughout human history. They can be fictional or nonfictional. Stories can be the creation of imaginative fables, the recording of personal or historical experience, or an expression of knowledge. They always reflect the perspective of the storyteller and are subjective and personal by nature. Storytelling is an integral part of education that spans all ages and academic disciplines.

Storytelling is how we make sense of the world around us. It’s how we pass knowledge, cultural traditions, narratives, and more from one generation to the next. It’s what connects us to the generations that came before us and what binds us to the generations that will come after our time.

Digital storytelling is simply the ancient art of telling stories enriched through the use of multimedia technologies. The skills and literacies developed through digital storytelling are increasingly important as more of our communications rely on multimedia. As I ...
