We looked in Chapters 3 and 5 at some input devices aimed either at general purpose audio use or at the guitarist specifically, and the iPhone and iPad have developed a very good record for hosting guitar multi-effects, rehearsal and recording apps, with the guitar input derived either from the audio socket or from the dock connector. This has led to a busy market in specialist guitar input devices, ranging from a simple cable with the appropriate line level buffering of the type already discussed to complex pedalboards usually matched with very highly programmable guitar multi-effects apps.
