Synchronicity: Getting Stuff to and from Your iPhone

After you pass basic training (in Chapter 2), the next thing you’re likely to want is to get some or all of the following into your iPhone: contacts, appointments, events, bookmarks, music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, photos, and documents.

new The preceding paragraph used to include iPhone apps, ringtones, iBooks, and iTunes U courseware, but iTunes 12.7 (and later) no longer supports apps, ringtones, iBooks, or iTunes U.

According to Apple, “iTunes 12.7 focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. Apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are now exclusively available in the new App Store for iOS.”

The bottom line is that you can no longer buy, update, download, or redownload apps on your Mac or PC. Nor can you buy, download, or redownload ringtones on a Mac or PC. Put another way, from this day forward (this day being the day iTunes 12.7 was released), you may buy or manage iOS apps and ringtones only on iOS devices. ...
