Your iPhone enables you to stay in touch via voice anywhere you can get a cellular connection or a Wi-Fi connection. You can use the Phone app to make either person-to-person calls or conference calls involving multiple people. You can use the FaceTime app to make either video calls or audio calls with either a single other person or multiple people. If you’re undecided about picking up a call, the Live Voicemail feature lets you see a transcription of the message even as the caller leaves it; and Visual Voicemail helps you to triage those calls you don’t pick up. You learn how to do all this — and more — in this chapter.

Making a Call

To make a call, launch the Phone app by tapping its icon on the Home screen; the icon will be on the dock unless you’ve moved it. The Phone app opens, and you can make calls by tapping any of the five tabs at the bottom of the screen: Favorites, Recents, Contacts, Keypad, or Voicemail, from left to right. You can ...
