IPv6 has a minimal impact on most upper-layer protocols. When changes are required, it is because of the protocol or application needing the extended 128-bit IPv6 address in the service that it provides. One of the upper-layer protocols where the IPv6 address changes are more evident is with DHCP for IPv6, known as DHCPv6. Besides accommodating the larger IPv6 address in the actual DHCP messages, there are other protocol changes as well.
