Things have changed dramatically in China in the last 25 years, and the story of the piano-playing Kong shows you just how much.
As early as the 1970s during China’s Cultural Revolution, a little boy named Kong was coached by his mother to learn to play the piano. Twenty-five years later, Kong has turned out to be a world-class performing artist playing classical music all over the world, which is a success against the odds for any piano player. However, as a boy in Shanghai, Kong learned to play the piano without ever using a piano. His family could not afford one.
