Chapter 4 Diversity, Combining, and Antennas
4.1 Introduction
In this chapter, we discuss the concepts of diversity reception where multiple signals are combined to improve the SNR of the system. Time diversity is used to improve system performance for IS-95 CDMA systems; therefore we explore that system in more detail. We then describe various combining schemes that are used to combine the signals. Finally, we consider some practical antennas used in the cellular telephone industry today.
