Chapter 10. Email Fraud: How Big a Problem?
In today’s connected world, email is a near-ubiquitous means of communication. It wasn’t always so; a mere fifteen years ago, few individuals outside of large corporations had their own email accounts. But things changed—and rapidly.
With the increase in email usage, however, came an increase in email-based fraud and unwanted junk email messages. Email scams and spam continue to be a big problem today—big enough to cause some individuals to stop using email altogether.
Personally I don’t think email-related problems are bad enough to throw the baby out with the bath water. Still, email is a common medium for all types of scammers; you need to be aware of the problems that exist in the email world.
