Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) is fundamentally a storage area network (SAN) protocol that is similar to Fibre Channel (FC). The key difference is that FC uses a specialized network and iSCSI uses TCP networks. iSCSI technology benefits from the low cost and familiarity of Ethernet and IP networking.
