Analysis

Analysis is the single most important building block in the practice of instructional design. Without it, you have little in the way of information and data upon which to build a unit of instruction, or to even decide if training or designing a course is the best way to address a perceived training need. Nothing can replace analysis, and it can’t be ignored by a professional instructional designer. No model of ISD exists without analysis in one form or another, regardless of the chaff sometimes thrown in the wind by some self-appointed ISD experts. You can’t work in this field without mastering this process. You will perform some aspect of analysis almost every day in your work.
