CHAPTER 5: HOW AN EMS CAN SUPPORT AN EnMS

From a strategic perspective, an EMS is probably better understood than an EnMS – particularly by those working to ISO 14001:2015 principles.

Implementing an EnMS can seem daunting but, as discussed in chapter three, an IMS can be considered. Even if it isn’t, looking at how an EMS can support the EnMS and vice versa makes good business sense. It is not so much reinventing the wheel, rather, using EMS processes already implemented to support energy management policies and targets.

One starting point is to examine to what extent energy is considered in the current EMS. There will certainly be some reference to it even if, say, waste minimisation, biodiversity or minimising the use of chemicals is seen ...
