5. Clause 4: Context of the Organization
We live inside an ecosystem, a place defined by all of our previous decisions and a host of societal forces, past and present. What we do with the available resources and those who recognize the results of our actions also have a decided impact on our present and future efforts. We succeed or fail in this context, and when threatened, adapt accordingly. Context—that is, our background, circumstances, environment, and perspective—requires definition to establish a baseline from which either to continue at the present rate or to grow.
