Prototype IT Organization

Start by understanding the high-level, direct-reporting structure to the senior IT official. The logic and history of your IT organizational reporting structure provide a useful basis for the analysis of organizational issues. Consider the prototype IT functional organization in Figure 3-1 and compare it to yours.

Note that the prototype is a functional organization. A functional organization chart highlights the major areas of operation or activity that compose a group—in this case, the IT department.
