CHAPTER 5: VALUE STREAMS FOR NEW SERVICES: REVIEWING SERVICE VALUE CHAINS AND SERVICE VALUE STREAMS
In this chapter and chapters 6–10, we consider:
•How to use a value stream to design, develop and transition new services; and
•How specified ITIL practices contribute to a value stream for a new service.
Several of the ITIL practices are applied to the design, development and transition of a new service. These include:
•Service design;
•Software development and management;
•Deployment management;
•Release management;
•Service validation and testing; and
•Change enablement.
The service value chain is “an operating model for service providers that covers all the key activities required to effectively manage products and services.”
